Who we are

We build decks that belong on the Peninsula.

If you've been dreaming about a deck that looks out over the garden, wraps around your home, or finally makes that sloping backyard usable — you're in the right place.

At Mornington Peninsula Decking Co, we've been helping Peninsula homeowners build better outdoor spaces for years. Whether it's a spotted gum deck off the back of your house in Frankston, an entertainer's paradise in Mount Eliza, or a composite deck that can handle the salt air near Portsea — Dean and the team know exactly what works down here.

The Peninsula isn't like building in the suburbs. Coastal conditions, clay soils, sloped blocks, bushfire zones and strict council regulations. We deal with this every single day.

Why us

Built by Peninsula locals, not a metro franchise.

What homeowners say

"Honestly the best decision we could have made."

"
Dean and his team built us a beautiful hardwood deck overlooking our garden. The attention to detail was incredible — three years on it still looks brand new.
Sarah M. · Mount Eliza
"
We had a tough sloping block we'd been putting off for years. Dean came out, had a good look around, and gave us a plan that actually made sense. Finished on time.
Mark & Julie T. · Red Hill
"
Went with composite for our beach house. Best decision we could have made — two winters in and it looks exactly the same as install day. Genuine local mob.
Chris L. · Rye

FAQ

Questions we get asked all the time.

How much does it cost to build a deck on the Mornington Peninsula?+

It depends. A straightforward ground-level treated pine deck might come in around $10,000–$18,000 for a typical block in Frankston or Mornington. Move to hardwood like spotted gum or blackbutt, add elevation, stairs and a roof structure, and you can be looking at $25,000–$60,000+. We give every client a clear, itemised quote — no fluff, no surprises.

Do I need a building permit?+

In many cases, yes — especially if your deck is more than 800mm above ground, exceeds certain floor areas, is attached to a Class 1 building, or sits in a bushfire-prone area (which covers a lot of the Peninsula). We handle all permit paperwork as part of our service.

What's the best timber for coastal areas like Portsea or Sorrento?+

For coastal conditions we typically recommend a naturally durable hardwood like Spotted Gum, Blackbutt or Kwila — or composite, which doesn't absorb moisture at all. We'll always recommend what we genuinely believe is right for your location and budget.

How long will my deck last?+

A properly built hardwood deck should last 25–40 years with regular maintenance. Treated pine: 15–25 years. Quality composites like Nexgen come with 25-year warranties.

How long does the build take?+

Most residential decks (20–40m²) take 3–7 working days on site. Permits and material lead times add 4–8 weeks up front. We'll give you a realistic timeline from day one.

Can you build on a sloping block?+

Absolutely — we do a lot of this on the Peninsula. Mount Eliza, Main Ridge, Red Hill and parts of Mornington are all sloping country. An elevated deck on a slope is often the best feature of the property.
